Rampuram: The SH LP School in Rampuram has transformed its front yard into a thriving farm, cultivating as many as 58 varieties of vegetables and crops for its students.
The lush green patch, filled with ready-to-harvest long beans, bitter gourd, tomatoes, and ladies’ finger, is a refreshing sight. Alongside these vegetables, the school also grows paddy, tapioca, corn, turmeric, ginger, and several other crops.
This impressive farm is the outcome of an initiative launched last year to promote vegetable cultivation and provide pesticide-free produce to students. The combined efforts of the school staff and PTA members have led to a bumper harvest.
Mani C Kappen, MLA, inaugurated the harvest festival and distributed sweets to the children. On the occasion, he also launched the school’s Spelling Bee competition and announced the MLA’s Excellence Award for the institution.
The event was attended by Lisamma Mathachan, President of Rampuram Panchayat; AEO Jollymol Isaac; School Assistant Manager Fr. Juvani Kuruvachira; Headmistress Sr. Lisa Mathew; PTA President Deepu Surendran; and staff members CT Rajan, Densil Ambat, Bineesh Chalil, Hareesh R. Krishna, Jins Gopinath, Johnson Nelluvelil, Besy, Jobi Joseph, Jibin Jiji, Joyal, Jeena, Magi, Saniya, and Jinu, among others.
