Idukki: A 64-year-old man died on Saturday after being attacked with acid by his 82-year-old paternal aunt in Idukki. The deceased has been identified as Sukumaran, a native of Cumbummettu in Kuzhitholu.

The accused, Thankamma, a native of Kattachira in Kottayam, has been taken into police custody. She also sustained burn injuries during the attack and is undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.

According to police, Thankamma had been staying at Sukumaran’s house for the past two weeks. On Friday, a heated argument reportedly broke out between them over a financial dispute, following which she allegedly poured acid on him.

Locals rushed Sukumaran to a private hospital in Thookkupalam and later to another in Kattappana. He was being shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital, Kottayam, for advanced treatment when he succumbed to his injuries. His body was later taken to the Idukki Medical College Hospital for autopsy. Cumbummettu police registered a case, and further investigation is underway.
