Kollam: The body of Sreerag Radhakrishnan (35), a native of Naduvilakara in Thevalakkara who died in a boat tragedy off the Mozambique coast, was brought home on Saturday.

Sreerag was among 21 people, including 14 Indians, on board the boat that capsized near Beira Port on October 16 while ferrying workers to the tanker MT Sea Quest for maintenance. His body was recovered on October 20 after an extensive search operation.

The mortal remains, repatriated from Mozambique, reached Mumbai airport on Friday, then Kochi and were brought to his residence in Kollam on Saturday morning. Relatives said the cremation will be held at his ancestral home.

An electrical engineer by profession, Sreerag rejoined his company, Scorpio Maritime Management India Pvt Ltd, on October 14 after a six-month break. He had been working on ships for nearly a decade.

Family members said he left for Mozambique on Monday morning and last contacted them from his hotel on Wednesday. “We were informed about the accident by the shipping company the next morning. The Indian Embassy and the company have been in touch with us since then,” said his uncle, Sasikumar.

Sreerag is survived by his parents P P Radhakrishnan and Sheela, his wife Jeethu, and two children, a six-year-old daughter and a six-month-old son.

Earlier, 22-year-old Indrajith Santhosh from Veliyanad in Piravom was reported missing in the same incident.
