Four separate accidents were reported within the span of an hour on the Thrissur–Puthukkad stretch of the National Highway amid heavy traffic congestion. One person sustained serious injuries in one of the accidents.

The injured has been identified as Thomas, a resident of Kanjur near Puthukkad. He suffered a severe leg injury and was rushed to a private hospital in Thrissur. The incident occurred around 5 pm when a tanker lorry coming from the Chalakudy side hit a scooter that was crossing the highway from Kanjur road. Thomas was thrown off the scooter, and his leg got trapped under the front wheel of the lorry.

Within the same hour, three more accidents occurred — involving a private bus and a bike, a KSRTC bus and a motorcycle, and a collision between two two-wheelers. No injuries were reported in these incidents.

The mishap occurred amid severe traffic congestion, with long queues of vehicles extending from Amballur to the Puthukkad junction. Vehicles trying to beat the signal and hurriedly crossing the junction without caution led to the incidents.
