Pathanamthitta: Nearly a year after the death of former Kannur Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Naveen Babu, his family has filed a defamation case against CPM leader PP Divya and TV Prasanthan. The Pathanamthitta Sub Court is scheduled to hear the case in November.
In their plea, the family alleged that Divya, the former Kannur District Panchayat President, and Prasanthan had attempted to portray Naveen Babu as a corrupt officer.
Naveen Babu was found dead in his official quarters on October 15, 2024. The police, after investigation, filed a chargesheet in March 2025 naming Divya as the sole accused in the abetment of suicide case.
The case stems from a complaint filed earlier by TV Prasanthan, who had accused Babu of demanding a ₹98,500 bribe for issuing a No Objection Certificate (NoC) to open a petrol pump. Following these allegations, Divya allegedly humiliated Babu during his farewell function at the Kannur Collectorate. According to his family's complaint, Babu took his own life, depressed over the incident.
