The Kerala High Court on Wednesday directed the Administrative Committee of the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple to submit a comprehensive report on the repair works being carried out in the temple. A Division Bench comprising Justice Devan Ramachandran and Justice M B Snehalatha was considering a petition that alleged defects in the Moolavigraha (principal idol) of the temple.

Earlier, the Chief Thanthri (chief priest) had submitted a note stating that there were no defects in the Moolavigraha, but emphasised the urgency of reconstructing the Sreekovil (sanctum sanctorum) roof and the idol of Vishwaksenan. Following this, the Court had sought a status report on the reconstruction works undertaken in the temple.

On Wednesday, counsel for the Administrative Committee informed the Court that the concerned authorities had held detailed deliberations with the Chief Thanthri regarding the repair works and their schedule. It was further submitted that the Chief Thanthri had recommended a list of Shilpis (sculptors) who would be entrusted with the work.

The senior counsel appearing for the Chief Thanthri confirmed these submissions and added that further instructions regarding the repair works would be provided to the committee during the upcoming deliberations. The Court directed the Administrative Committee to file a comprehensive report, including the schedule, nature, and manner of the work, within two weeks.
