Cherthala: An accident and a broken leg didn’t douse the spirit of joy at the wedding of Cherthala native Kalithattungal Rameshan (65) and Kuruppamkulangara Alakkaveliyil Omana (55). The wedding was solemnised in the presence of close relatives and friends of the bride and groom.

Rameshan who works as a carpenter at Mathilakan hospital in Cherthala met with an accident on October 15 as he was getting ready for his wedding. He was on his way home on a bicycle when it collided with a bike. Rameshan sustained severe leg injuries including broken bones on his left thighs and knees.

He was admitted at the Kottayam medical college and then at the Cherthala taluk hospital. Although his family and relatives had considered postponing the marriage, it was then decided to conduct the wedding as planned on October 25th. This is both Rameshan and Omana’s second marriage.

Rameshan was brought home from the hospital for the wedding. Omana and her relatives reached the groom’s house for the thalikettu ritual. In a simple ceremony, Rameshan seated comfortably on a cot tied the sacred thread on Omana’s neck. The close relatives of both the bride and groom were present to shower them with blessings and wishes.
