Kochi: A 16-year-old boy drove a Toyota Innova recklessly along the Cherai–Njarakkal road on Saturday, crashing into several vehicles and injuring one person. Several others narrowly escaped being hit.
The police said that a case has been registered against the boy’s father, Abdul Rasheed, a native of Kaloor. He has been slapped with relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act for allowing a juvenile to drive. The injured is an elderly woman who was hit at Edavanakkad.
The incident occurred in the morning when the teenager, accompanied by two friends, took the vehicle out for a drive. CCTV footage showed the car making a sudden U-turn in the middle of the road without checking its side mirrors, narrowly missing several bikers.
The visuals also showed two bikers following the car, which then hit another vehicle. Passersby tried to stop the car after witnessing its dangerous journey, but failed.
Following complaints about the reckless driving, police intercepted the vehicle at Njarakkal. An officer of the Njarakkal Police Station said that further investigation is underway.
