Kochi: The Kerala High Court marked Kerala Day on November 1 by unveiling a Malayalam legal glossary aimed at promoting clarity, accuracy and uniformity in the use of legal terminology. The day also coincided with the 70th Establishment Day of the High Court.
The legal glossary, comprising 6,375 legal terms, was launched by Chief Justice Nitin Jamdar. The initiative, led by the IT Directorate of the High Court, is part of ongoing efforts to make judicial language more accessible and standardised in Malayalam.
Speaking at the event, Chief Justice Jamdar noted that the High Court has been translating key judgments of both the Supreme Court and the High Court into Malayalam to make judicial pronouncements more accessible to the public. The newly prepared glossary, he said, would play a crucial role in ensuring linguistic precision and consistency in that process.
The Chief Justice also announced the full implementation of the e-Office system across the High Court, all district courts in Kerala, the Union Territory of Lakshadweep, and associated judicial units. The e-Office initiative enables paperless file processing — allowing digital movement, approval and archiving of files — thereby improving efficiency, reducing delays and cutting down on storage and stationery costs.
November 1 also marked the statewide rollout of Adalat.AI, a voice-to-text platform that will be used by judicial officers in trial courts to record witness statements. The digitally transcribed statements will be automatically uploaded to the District Court Case Management System (DCMS), ensuring instant access to all stakeholders.
