Kumbla: A 15-year-old girl died after the scooter she was riding crashed into a wall at Pookkatta in Ulwar village near Kumbla around 8.30 am on Thursday. Her friend escaped with minor injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Rizwana, daughter of Razaak and Ramzeena of Choorithadka at Bambraana near Kumbla. She was a Class X student of Government High School at Kodiamme near Kumbla. According to reports, they were on the way to tuition.

The FIR lists the second rider's age between 14 and 20, and police are verifying who was driving the 125 cc scooter at the time of the crash. The legal age to drive vehicles above 50 cc is 18 years. The FIR said that the scooter was driven carelessly and negligently in a manner that endangered human life. 

Police have registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, for rash driving (Section 281), causing death by negligence (Section 106(1)), and endangering life or personal safety of others (Section 125(a)).

Rizwana was first taken to the District Cooperative Hospital and then shifted to a private hospital in Kasaragod. As her condition was serious, she was then moved to a hospital in Mangaluru, where she died. 

She is survived by her parents and four siblings.
