Thiruvananthapuram: A 35-year-old man died by suicide on Friday, reportedly due to financial difficulties. The deceased has been identified as Amal Krishnan, a resident of Thottumukku. A suicide note was recovered from the scene.
The Vithura Police have registered an FIR under Section 194 (unnatural death) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). As per the FIR, Amal Krishnan was found hanging from an iron rod on the roof of the kitchen in his office building, La Masia Turf, around 9.15 am. A police team is at the scene, and inquest procedures are underway, said an official from the Vithura Police Station.
According to his friend and business partner Harilal, Amal took the drastic step on the day of his six-month-old son’s naming ceremony. Thottumukku ward member Ansar said that Amal Krishnan had started the turf during the COVID-19 pandemic. “He had taken loans for both his house and the turf. When he failed to make the payments, bank officials visited his house. He was deeply distressed afterwards,” Ansar said.
He is survived by his wife, Vineetha, and two sons.
