Karumadi road turned into muddy mess, ₹75-lakh tourism terminal left inaccessible

Alappuzha: Travelling along the Karumadi Shakteeshwari Junction–Vilakkumaram road has turned into a risky ordeal for residents. The mud-covered stretch has become a slippery mess after mixing with rainwater, making it almost impassable. Two-wheelers frequently get stuck or skid on the slushy surface, often throwing riders off and causing injuries.
Local residents say that even autorickshaw drivers refuse to take the route, citing the danger — even in cases of medical emergencies. The road, however, is the only link to the Ambalappuzha–Thiruvalla state highway and provides access to the Karumadi St Nicholas Church and Kamapurathukavu Temple. With accidents becoming common, many adults say they are afraid to travel through the area.
The ₹75 lakh tourism terminal built by the Tourism Department has also been rendered inaccessible due to the poor condition of the road.
"We have been suffering for two years because of the terrible state of the Karumadi road. Many of us avoid going out for fear of slipping and getting hurt. The authorities must end their indifference and take steps to construct a hanging bridge across the TS Canal," said Thomas Joseph, a resident of Asha Bhavan.
