Kenichira: Around 60 families residing in the Annavayal area under Poothadi panchayat are planning to boycott the upcoming election in protest against the authorities’ failure to repair a dilapidated road.

The protest is being organised under the banner of the Ashankavala People’s Collective, which has put up a board in the locality declaring that the candidates 'need not come seeking votes' until this long-pending issue is resolved.

Residents say that successive administrations, regardless of political party, have failed to widen the road, which is five metres wide as per village records, or carry out proper repairs.

The board installed by the Collective clearly states that no political representative should approach them for votes until a permanent solution is found.
