Triprayar: It was day of excitement and thrill at the Chettuva harbour as the fishermen on Galaxy boat struck gold. 12 tonnes of tuna fish was sold for a whopping ₹25 lakh at the auction held at the harbour.

Tuna fish caught by the fishermen of Galaxy boat owned by Chettuva Mulakkal native Sunil was sold at lightning speed, setting a record for highest price. The boat that set out into the high seas on October 6 returned to the harbour on the 11th.

Meanwhile, the fishermen said that it is quite rare for a single boat to get such a big catch and fetch an exorbitant price. Five among the eight fishermen on the boat are Lakshadweep natives while three hail from Kollam.

Each tuna weighed between 40 – 70 kilos. Three local seafood exporting companies bought the tuna for exporting to foreign countries.
