Thirumittakode: The drainage construction and subsequent works as part of the development of Arangotukara junction have marred the peace of residents in the locality. The drainage channels on both sides of the road were demolished the other day for renovation.

The underground drinking water pipes burst when the road was dug up for renovating the drainage channels. It’s been two weeks since water was being wasted from the water authority’s pipes, and there are still no signs of repairing the damaged pipes.

This water flows through the drainage channel and gets mixed with the drinking water. The pipes in the main channel that carry waste-water have been damaged. Drinking water too gets mixed with the wastes that are piled in these channels. These drainage channels are filled with food waste dumped by the road workers, empty water bottles and other plastic waste.

Travelling along this stretch has become a nightmare as the road has been dug up for renovation. Meanwhile, the people in the locality have urged the authorities to temporarily level the potholes on the road and do maintenance works to make it fit for transportation at least until the renovation works of the drainage channels are completed.
