Thiruvananthapuram: A truck carrying CNG cylinders overturned on the national highway connecting Thiruvananthapuram and Shenkottai on Saturday. As gas is leaking from two cylinders, people residing within a 50-metre radius of Vanchuvam, near the accident spot, are being evacuated.

According to the police, the truck carrying 35 cylinders skidded off the road around 12.30 pm. The truck's cabin detached from the vehicle due to the impact. The vehicle met with the accident while heading towards Thiruvananthapuram town after refilling the cylinders from Palode.

Fire and Rescue personnel from Vithura and Nedumangad are currently attempting to plug the leak. A CNG technician will arrive at the site to assist the operation. The police said there is no cause for public concern.

Police have imposed traffic restrictions on the road leading to Vanchuvam.
