The State Election Commission (SEC) has called for public holidays on polling days for the upcoming local body elections. The polling will take place across the state from 7 am to 6 pm on two separate days:
December 9: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam districts.
December 11: Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts.
The Commission has directed the State Government to ensure that employees in factories, plantations, and other categories are either provided a public holiday or given sufficient facility to exercise their voting rights. The Central Personnel and Training Department has also been requested to grant leave to employees of Central Government departments and Central Public Sector Undertakings on polling days.
EVM tracking software goes live
The Election Commission has officially launched and made fully operational its EVM Track Software. Commissioner A Shahjahan inaugurated the system, which is designed for the deployment and movement monitoring of EVMs used in the local body elections. “EVM Track, which can be coordinated through a centralised system and can track the movement of voting machines everywhere in the state, is a software that can be effectively used by other state commissions, including the Central Election Commission, in the future,” he said.
