Thiruvalla/ Pathanamthitta: Police have arrested two West Bengal natives for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl, the daughter of migrant labourers, in Pathanamthitta. The girl and her two-year-old sibling were alone at home when the incident happened on Monday afternoon, as their parents had gone to work.

The accused, aged 24 and 34, are construction workers residing in the same locality. “They entered the girl’s house and attacked her. Local residents heard her screams and immediately alerted the police,” S Nandakumar, Thiruvalla DySP, who is heading the investigation, told Onmanorama.

Thiruvalla police reached the spot promptly and detained the duo from their nearby residence. “They were attempting to escape. Their arrest was recorded, and further investigation is in progress,” the officer said.

The accused were booked under Section 63 (rape) and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Further investigation is underway.
