Adimali: A woman and her four-year-old son were found dead inside their house at Panikkankudi on Thursday evening. The deceased are Perumballikunnel Ranjini (28) and her son Adithyan.

The incident occurred around 5.30 pm. At the time, only Ranjini and her son were at home. Her husband, Shalath, had gone for daily-wage work. When he returned, he reportedly found Adithyan hanging from the window grille. The child was alive when found and was rushed to a private hospital in Adimali with the help of neighbours, but his life could not be saved.

According to the police, Ranjini had earlier called her husband and said she intended to take her life. Initial findings suggest she may have killed the child before dying by suicide. Shalath came to know of the deaths after returning home from work.

Vellathooval police have registered a case and begun a detailed investigation, including examining the possibility of foul play. Fingerprint experts are expected to inspect the house. Police said Ranjini had reportedly taken medication earlier, possibly due to mental stress. Adithyan was a student at Queen Mary Public School, Panikkankudi.
