A 57-year-old man was found dead at his residence in Kothamangalam on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Rajan Ayyappan alias Kochappi, of Erattakkali, Kadavoor, near Kothamangalam. Around 9 am, his friends found him lying in a pool of blood inside his house, where he had been living alone after separating from his family.

According to Pothanikad police, Ayyappan and his brother-in-law, Sukumaran, had consumed liquor together on Saturday night. The cops suspect that a quarrel between them led to the murder. Police said that although the duo parted ways after drinking, Sukumaran reportedly went to Ayyappan’s house around 8 pm and stabbed him with a knife. The two had a history of disputes.

Sukumaran has been taken into custody for further probe. The body has been shifted to the hospital for post-mortem examination. Police have registered a case under Section 103(murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
