Alappuzha: The Additional District Sessions Court here on Monday awarded death penalty to Prabeesh (37), a native of Muthukodu in Malappuram, in the 2021 Anitha murder case.

According to the prosecution, Prabeesh murdered Anitha Sasidharan (32), a native of Punnapra in Alappuzha, with the help of his friend Rajani (38) on July 9, 2021. Anitha, who was married and the mother of two children, was pregnant at the time of her murder.

Rajani, the second accused and a native of Kainakari in Alappuzha, is currently lodged in a Chhattisgarh prison after being arrested in a drug case.

Police began probing the case after an unidentified woman’s body was recovered from the backwaters near Pallathuruthy. The investigation later revealed that Anitha was strangled her after being lured to Rajani’s house in Kainakari. When Anitha fell unconscious, the accused dumped her in the backwaters.
