Kollam: A woman was allegedly bludgeoned to death with an LPG cylinder by her husband at Karikkod here late on Sunday. The victim, Kavitha (46), was found lying in a pool of blood when police reached the house in the early hours of Monday. Her husband, Madhusoodanan Pillai (54), was taken into custody from the scene. Police said Kavitha died on the spot due to severe head injuries.

According to the FIR, the incident occurred around 12.30 am when Pillai struck Kavitha multiple times on her head with a gas cylinder. The couple’s daughter was present in the house at the time, the report said. Hearing loud noises, neighbours rushed to the residence and alerted the police. A doctor called to the spot confirmed her death.

Pillai was arrested and taken to the Kilikkollur police station, where a case of murder has been registered. The body has been shifted to a government hospital for autopsy.

Though Pillai has not disclosed a motive, police suspect a domestic dispute led to the attack. The accused is reported to be a habitual drinker and was undergoing treatment for depression. He is engaged in the cashew business.
