Thrissur: An accident inside the Kuthiran tunnel resulted in a man’s left arm being severed above the elbow early on Tuesday.

Sujin, 22, a native of Kollengode, was seated in the side seat of a pickup van when the vehicle skidded out of control. It scraped along the handrails installed along the tunnel wall, causing his arm to be severed.

He was taken to hospital in one ambulance, while the severed arm was transported separately in another. Officers from Peechi Police and the National Highway recovery team reached the site soon after the accident.
