Plus One student builds smart voting machine, wins praise at career conclave

Kannur: PV Sivanand, a Plus One Science student at Kalyassery KPR Gopalan Memorial School, is winning accolades for designing a cutting-edge smart voting machine.
The teenager showcased the device at the Disha Expo International Career Conclave, where he also presented a paper on `Combining Technology with Democracy. Sivanand has developed the machine using the cash prize he had received through the Inspire Award.
The electronic voting machine is equipped with advanced security features and safeguards key personal data such as fingerprints, Aadhaar details, pin code and ration card information. In addition to the EVM, Sivanand has also created several other innovations including smart spectacles, an automatic school attendance system with a scanner-based messaging feature to detect narcotic substances, an automated car-parking system, and a zebra-line crossing elevator.
Sivanand is the son of VP Vinod Kumar of Sivaradhana House, Kalyassery, and Praseetha Vinod, a teacher at Najath Higher Secondary School in Kannur. His sister, Sivani, is a Class 8 student.
