Thrissur: The Varandarappilly police on Wednesday registered a case against a man and his mother for abetment of suicide after his wife was found burned to death at their residence in Mattumala. The deceased, Archana, was the wife of Sharon. He has been taken into custody for questioning.

Archana’s parents alleged that she had been subjected to continuous physical abuse at her husband’s home. The couple had married six months ago. 

Sharon’s mother, who had returned home after picking up her daughter's child from the anganwadi, found Archana's charred body behind the house around 4 pm. Police suspect she may have set herself on fire inside the house and then run outside. A forensic examination is scheduled for Thursday morning, after which the body will be shifted to the hospital.

Police said Sharon is also an accused in a ganja-related case in Tamil Nadu.
