Woman en route to hospital dies in road accident in Kozhikode

Kozhikode: A 61-year-old woman, who a accompanied a cancer patient to hospital here, died in a road accident on Thursday morning. The deceased is Omana (61), a native of Mattannur, Kannur.
The accident happened around 6.30 am near the old RTO office in Koyilandy, Kozhikode, on National Highway 66, when the car she was travelling in collided with a mini truck heading towards Kannur. The front portion of the car was severely damaged in the impact.
Two other passengers—Remani (55) and her son Sarin (30)—sustained serious injuries. They met with the accident while taking Remani who is a cancer patient to hospital. Fire and rescue personnel and Koyilandy police reached the spot and shifted the injured to a nearby private hospital, from where they were later referred to Kozhikode.
“Omana was brought dead, and Remani has suffered a head injury,” a hospital source told Onmanorama.
Omana is survived by her husband Panniyodan Sreedharan, son Sreejesh and daughter Mahima. Her last rites will be held at her residence on Thursday at 7 pm.
