Thrissur: The DANSAF team seized nearly half a kilogram of MDMA during election-related security inspections at Irinjalakuda on Tuesday. The team recovered 245.72 grams of the drug concealed inside a secret compartment of a car.

The arrested, Fahad (30), is a native of Eriyad in Kodungallur. The seizure took place early in the morning at Thanavu Junction. Acting on a tip-off received by the Thrissur Rural Police, the DANSAF team intercepted the vehicle and found MDMA worth several lakh rupees.

According to the police, this is one of the biggest MDMA hauls reported in Thrissur in recent years. Officials confirmed that Fahad had previously been booked for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Investigators suspect his involvement in a wider drug network and are examining his phone records and digital trail to trace the source of the narcotics and identify the intended recipients of the large quantity of MDMA. Further enquiries are underway.
