Kozhikode: Residents of Vellalassery were left shocked after the water in a household well mysteriously turned a deep blue, prompting an inquiry by health and geology officials.

The incident was reported at the residence of N Vishwambharanb of Ashtapadi house,  where the family noticed the unusual colour on Tuesday while drawing water for kitchen use. On checking the well, about 10 metres deep, they found the water had taken on a striking, unnatural blue shade.

Following the discovery, Health Inspector P Navya from the Choloor Family Health Centre and K Pramod from the Department of Geology, along with local representatives, visited the site. Health department officials collected water samples and sent them to the CWDRM laboratory for examination. Soon after, the water was drained from the well, and once the well was cleaned, the water seeping from the soil appeared normal.

Meanwhile, the health department has instructed a scientific analysis of the water samples collected after cleaning. They have also issued a directive to stop using water from the well for the time being.
