Thrissur: A brass Devi idol was stolen from the Keezhur Karthiyayini Devi Temple committee office in Kunnamkulam late on Saturday night. The theft is suspected to have occurred around midnight.

The incident came to light around 5 am on Sunday when temple manager Chandran opened the office and found two cupboards broken open. The idol kept inside the office was missing.

Temple committee president Bineesh Nediyedath said the Pooram festival collections had already been counted and shifted from the temple premises on Saturday. The money kept in the committee office was also moved to the secretary’s house, minimising financial loss.

Kunnamkulam police inspected the spot after being alerted by committee members. A search has been launched, and officers are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to trace the culprit.
