Thrissur: Though Mujimujil Kabeer, a Congress-affiliated independent, and Anoop Kandampulli, a CPM-affiliated independent, filed nominations from the same ward, the two have now teamed up. Kabeer is actively canvassing for Anoop, and the pair have been campaigning together.

In the Kozhikulangara ward of the Chavakkad municipality, Kabeer is backing his friend despite contesting as an independent himself. The decision, they say, was based on a mutual understanding that one of them should consolidate votes in order to challenge the UDF, LDF and NDA candidates.

The strategy involves Kabeer directing his support and votes toward Anoop's win. Kabeer received the chenda (drum) as his election symbol, while Anoop is contesting under the sword and shield. Both have appealed to voters to cast their ballots for the sword and shield.

The duo said they joined hands to prevent splitting the vote between them, as both are well-acquainted with the ward and its voters. Other candidates in the fray include K M Binesh (UDF), P Yathindradas (LDF), and Janardanan Mandakathingal (NDA).
