Public campaigning for the second phase of the local body elections concluded at 6 pm on Tuesday, after an energetic day marked by packed roadshows, rallies and vibrant last-minute outreach by candidates across seven districts. Party workers, candidates and supporters were seen dancing to percussion beats, waving party flags, wearing caps and throwing coloured confetti. With this, the candidates have begun silent campaigning. Meanwhile, polling was completed in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam on Tuesday.

Second phase of polls
Polling for the second phase will be held on Thursday, December 11, in Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Kannur, Wayanad and Kasaragod from 7 am to 6 pm. A total of 18,274 polling stations have been set up for the second phase. Of these, 2,055 have been classified as problem-prone booths, including 81 in Thrissur, 180 in Palakkad, 295 in Malappuram, 166 in Kozhikode, 189 in Wayanad, 1025 in Kannur and 119 in Kasaragod.

All 18,274 control units and 49,019 ballot units required for voting are ready, with candidate settings completed. An additional 2,631 control units and 6,943 ballot units have been kept in reserve.

Voting on December 11 will cover 9,015 grama panchayats, 1,177 block panchayats, 182 district panchayats, 1,829 municipality wards and 188 corporation wards. A total of 1,53,37,125 voters are eligible to participate in the second phase, including 72,46,269 men, 80,90,746 women, and 161 transgender persons. Among them, 3293 are overseas voters.
