Kasaragod: The CPI has demanded a thorough investigation after a country-made ‘jaw bomb’ — planted in fields to target wild boars — killed the pet dog of its Kasaragod district panchayat candidate.

The mixed-breed dog of Prakash Kumbadaje, the CPI’s candidate from Badiadka division, was found dead with its head blown apart near his house at Kadaraballi in Kumbadaje panchayat on Thursday, the election day. “Neighbours heard a loud blast. When they rushed to the spot, they found the dog dead,” he said.

Badiadka police said they found three more countrywide jaw bombs, also called ‘pig bombs’, were found nearby.

In a press statement, CPI district secretary C P Babu said such suspicious incidents warrant a detailed investigation to clear the mystery.
