Erumely: PS Syamini, a class six student of Kanakapalam MTHS can now live in a sturdy house gifted by a group of kind-hearted people. Syamini and her parents have been living in a dilapidated house with just one room.
Her father Sukumaran is a coconut tree climber. The teachers who visited Syamini’s house as part of the school’s policy to visit the students’ homes saw the pathetic condition of the house in which the family was living.
The school then took the initiative to build a new house for Syamini and her family. They shared the matter with the Chicago Malayalee Association and a few other well-wishers who expressed their willingness to help. As a new house couldn’t be built on the land where the current house is located, a small house and three cents land was purchased close to the school. Around Rs 5.5 lakh was spent to renovate this house.
The house was purchased and renovated with the help of the Chicago Malayalee Association, Chicago Mar Thoma Yuvajana Sankhyam, Abraham George (USA), Subin Mathew (USA) and Subin’s friends.
The key was handed over to Sukumaran and family at 2.30 pm today by Chicago Malayalee Association vice president Philip Puthenpurackal. Meanwhile, headmistress Jetty Thomas said that the house was gifted to Syamini as part of MTHS’ ninetieth anniversary.
