Ras Al Khaimah: A 27-year-old Keralite died after a large stone dislodged from a building and struck him on the head during heavy rains and strong winds that lashed Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Salman Faris of Thalakkottu Thodikayil in Nannambra, Kodinhi, Malappuram.
The tragedy occurred early in the morning when Faris ran into an under-construction building to take shelter from the rain. He was an employee of a round- the-clock Istanbul Shawarma outlet in Ras Al Khaimah. He was on a delivery assignment when sudden gusts of wind and heavy rain hit the area, forcing him to seek refuge inside the building.
Faris was the son of Sulaiman and Asmabi. He is survived by his wife Fathima Safa, a native of Parappanangadi, whom he married just seven months ago, and his siblings Shamla Sherin and Zubaida Shani.
The heavy rain also battered several parts of the UAE, including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah, accompanied by strong winds and hail in many areas. Widespread damage was reported, with severe waterlogging in low-lying areas and numerous trees uprooted.
