The Congress, on Monday, declared alliance with three parties going into the upcoming assembly polls. Former MLA P V Anvar, State Convenor (All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) Kerala), C K Janu, who heads the Janadhipathya Rashtriya Party (JRP) and Vishnupuram Chandrasekharan, Chairman of Vaikunda Swamy Dharma Pracharana Sabha (VSDPS) will join the UDF, said Opposition Leader V D Satheesan.
Briefing the media after the UDF co-ordination committee meeting here on Monday, Satheesan said that all the parties have not raised any demands. "They approached us with a request. We deliberated at the co-ordination committee and have decided to make them part of the alliance," said Satheesan. They will be made associate members of the UDF, said Satheesan.
Satheesan has been stubborn in dissing any attempt from Anvar to be part of the UDF. He had sternly discouraged any kind of association with Anvar during the Nilambur bypoll and during the recently held local body elections. The latest decision reflects a change in strategy ahead of the assembly elections scheduled in 2026. Anvar had quit ties with the LDF and was keen on joining the UDF.
Tribal activist C K Janu had severed ties with the NDA in August after openly expressing displeasure over the manner in which her party was treated by the BJP leadership in Kerala. VSDP was also a former ally of the NDA.
Satheesan said that directions have been issued to all the leaders not to stitch any kind of understanding with the BJP or the CPM to run local governments.
