Kerala local body elections: Congress tops vote share with 29.17 per cent

The Congress emerged as the party with the highest vote share in Kerala’s 2025 local body elections, securing 29.17 per cent of the total votes polled, according to figures released by the State Election Commission.
Election data showed that voters cast a total of 5,49,36,396 votes across the state. Of these, the Congress received 1,60,24,802 votes. The CPM followed closely with 1,49,22,193 votes, translating into a vote share of 27.16 per cent.
The BJP, which topped the seat count in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, polled 81,08,137 votes statewide, accounting for 14.76 per cent of the total votes.
Among other parties, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), the second-largest partner in the UDF, secured 53,69,745 votes, giving it a 9.77 per cent share. The CPI, a major ally of the LDF, garnered 30,66,476 votes, amounting to 5.58 per cent.
Independent candidates, including those supported by major political parties, together polled 31,67,381 votes, or 5.77 per cent, marginally surpassing the CPI’s vote total.
The BJP recorded its strongest district-wise performance in Thiruvananthapuram, where it secured a vote share of 23.08 per cent.
The Congress crossed the 30 per cent mark in eight districts stretching from Thiruvananthapuram to Thrissur. In contrast, the CPM achieved a vote share above 30 per cent in only two districts — Palakkad, where it polled 33.93 per cent, and Kannur, where it registered 38.82 per cent.
Overall, the Congress-led UDF gained control of four out of the state’s six municipal corporations and seven of the 14 district panchayats.
