Palakkad: A woman and her five-year-old daughter were killed after being run over by a tipper lorry at Lakkidi near Ottapalam on Monday morning, police said.

The deceased were identified as Saranya and her daughter Adhisree, residents of Thiruvilwamala. The accident occurred around 8 am while Saranya was travelling on a scooter with her daughter, ridden by her relative Mohandas, to her husband’s house.

Police said the tipper lorry hit the two-wheeler, throwing Saranya and the child onto the road, where they were run over. Both died on the spot, though their deaths were confirmed at a hospital. Mohandas sustained injuries after being thrown off the road.

Ottapalam police said a case will be registered against the lorry driver and an investigation has been launched. The bodies will be handed over to the family after post-mortem examinations.
