Kannur: CPM leader and former minister PK Sreemathy's bag containing money and documents was stolen on Wednesday during a journey to Bihar. The theft occurred while she was travelling by train from Kolkata to Samastipur in Bihar to attend an conference of All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA).

The stolen bag contained ₹40,000 in cash,  Aadhaar card, PAN card, other identity documents, jewellery, and a mobile phone. It is believed the theft occurred around 4 am on Wednesday. CPM leader Mariam Dhawale was travelling along with Sreemathy.

They boarded the train from Kolkata at around 8 pm on Tuesday and were scheduled to reach Samastipur at around 7 am. Sreemathy said that she realised the bag had been stolen when the train reached Darsing Sarai station at around 5.30 am. 

She was sleeping on a lower berth, and the bag was kept close to her head, covered with a shawl.

The CPM leader said that the theft had been reported to the RPF police station and also conveyed to the officials, including the DGP.
