Kozhikode: A 32-year-old woman who was brutally attacked by her husband over a dispute related to money died in Feroke here. The deceased, MK Muneera of Makkattu Kambilipuram on Pandikkashala Road, succumbed to her injuries early Sunday morning while undergoing treatment at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.

The attack took place around 9.30 am on Wednesday at their residence near Farook College. Muneera, who worked at a nearby supermarket, was preparing to leave for work when her husband, Abdul Jabbaar, assaulted her. He allegedly locked her inside a room and hacked her repeatedly. Neighbours who heard her screams rushed to the house and took her to the hospital.

Police said Jabbaar attacked her with a machete on Wednesday, causing serious injuries to her head, neck and hands. Muneera remained in critical condition on ventilator support before she died. Police arrested Jabbar the same day and said he was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

According to police, a case was registered against Jabbaar by the Kondotty police in 2024. Although the couple had reached the stage of separation following that incident, Muneera later decided to resume living with him, according to sources. The couple have two children, aged eight and six.
