Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has created history by recording its highest-ever single-day revenue from ticket sales, with total earnings touching ₹13.01 crore on January 5. Of this, ticket revenue accounted for ₹12.18 crore, while non-ticket revenue stood at ₹0.83 crore.
Transport Minister KB Ganesh Kumar said the achievement was a matter of pride and proof that nothing was impossible for KSRTC employees when they worked together. “If not now, then when? This is the first time in history that KSRTC has achieved such a milestone. We can all be proud of this,” he said congratulating the staff.
The minister credited the record-breaking performance to the coordinated efforts of KSRTC CMD Dr Promoj Shankar, the management, employees, supervisors and officers. He pointed out that the corporation managed to achieve the target without increasing ticket fares, despite operating under conditions similar to last year.
Ganesh Kumar said timely reform measures introduced after he assumed office, along with sustained follow-up actions under the leadership of the KSRTC management, played a crucial role in advancing the goal of a self-reliant KSRTC. The induction of new buses and qualitative improvements in services, he added, had received strong public acceptance.
According to the minister, all KSRTC depots are currently operating at a profit due to disciplined functioning. Competitive efforts at depot level to achieve ticket revenue targets, reduction in off-road buses to maximise fleet utilisation, and improvements in service quality were key factors behind the surge in revenue.
Congratulating CMD Dr Promoj Shankar, the management and employees across all sections of KSRTC for their tireless efforts, Ganesh Kumar also thanked passengers for continuing to place their trust in the state-run transport utility.
