Kozhikode: Doctors at the Government Medical College Hospital successfully removed a pair of scissors swallowed by a patient from the Government Mental Health Centre through emergency surgery.
The patient, a young man, was admitted to the hospital's emergency department on Monday evening after he refused to take food. An X-ray examination revealed that a 15-cm-long pair of scissors was lodged in his oesophagus, following which he was immediately referred to the ENT department.
An emergency surgery was performed later that night, during which the scissors were safely removed. Hospital authorities said the patient is currently in a stable condition.
The surgical team comprised Dr Sreejith, Dr Nikhil, Dr Chitra, Dr Fathima and Dr Ashik from the ENT department, along with Dr Minnu, Dr Dhanya, Dr Fahmida and Dr Ragin from the anaesthesia department.
