US President Donald Trump, on Friday, repeated his earlier claim, stating that India has "de-escalated" its oil purchases from Russia, as he met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Trump on Wednesday claimed that in a telephonic conversation with Prime Minister Modi, he had been "assured" that India wouldn't be buying oil from Russia. But he added that he understands that it can't be done "immediately".

However, on Thursday, India rejected Trump's claim of having a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs said that India prioritised the interests of Indian consumers and added that the country seeks to expand and diversify its energy procurement.

Zelensky had met with Trump seeking weapons to keep fighting his nation's war with Russia. However, Trump was more interested in brokering a peace deal rather than upgrading Ukraine's arsenal. After the meeting, Zelensky told reporters he did not want to talk about long-range missiles, adding that the US did not want escalation.

While Trump did not turn down Zelensky's demand for the long-range Tomahawk missiles, he appeared cool to the prospect as he looked ahead to a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Hungary in the coming weeks.

After his conversation with Zelensky, Trump requested both Ukraine and Russia to "stop the war immediately," even if it means Ukraine conceding territory.

Zelensky told Trump that they had thousands of drones ready for an offensive against Russia, but needed American missiles. "We don't have Tomahawks, that's why we need Tomahawks," he said. To which the US President responded, "We'd much rather have them not need Tomahawks."
