Indian one-day team vice-captain Rohit Sharma had said in the past that Jasprit Bumrah was a rare talent and the pacer has invariably proved his Mumbai Indians skipper right.
Bumrah has had the rare ability to pick up big wickets on his debut in all formats and in major tournaments. Latest addition to his kitty is Hashim Amla, the well established South African opening batsman.
Memorable World Cup debut
Bumrah made his world cup debut against South Africa at Southampton on Wednesday. He did not have to wait too long for his first wicket in the marquee event as he sent back Amla in his second over.
Bumrah signalled his arrival on the World Cup arena with a masterly spell (10-1-35-2) against the Proteas as he removed the dangerous openers Amla and Quinton de Kock.
Scalping Kohli
Bumrah started his Indian Premier League (IPL) journey with Mumbai Indians in 2013. With an awkward bowling action he grabbed the eyes of the spectators. Indian captain and current World No.1 batsman Virat Kohli was his first IPL victim. Kohli smashed Bumrah for three boundaries, but the man from Gujarat had the last laugh as he trapped the former in front of the wicket in his very first over.
Prized wicket of Steve Smith
It was in 2016 that Bumrah made his One-Day International (ODI) debut against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He troubled the Australian batting line-up with his variations and yorkers. His first wicket in ODIs was the then Australian captain Steve Smith.
Accounting for Warner
Bumrah's T20 International debut was also against the mighty Australians at the Adelaide Oval on January 26, 2016. David Warner, one of the most dangerous openers in the game, was his first T20I victim.
Sending back de Villliers
After a long two year wait, Bumrah made his Test debut against South Africa at Cape Town on January 5, 2018. He took only one wicket in the first innings, but it was the big fish - AB de Villiers.
