Thiruvananthapuram: Brilliant hundreds by Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill backed up by a terrific spell by Mohammed Siraj powered India to a record 317-run win over Sri Lanka in the third and final One-Day International (ODI) at the Greenfield International Stadium on Sunday.
The thumping win helped the Men in Blue sweep the series 3-0. It was the biggest victory by runs in ODIs, bettering New Zealand's 290 against Ireland.
Chasing a mammoth 391, the Lankan innings folded up for 73 in just 22 overs. Siraj was the wrecker-in-chief with figures of 4/32 from his 10 overs. Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Shami picked up a couple of wickets each.
Nuwanidu Fernando was the top-scorer for the Lankans with 19.
Ashen Bandara did not bat after colliding with teammate Jeffrey Vandersay while trying to save a boundary during the Indian innings. Dunith Wellalage, who came in as concussion substitute for Vandersay, departed for three.
Earlier, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma put on 95 for the opening wicket along with Gill after electing to bat. Rohit departed for 42 off 49 balls.
Gill and Kohli continued the Indian domination with a 131-run stand for the second wicket. Gill brought up his second ODI ton off 89 balls. He hit 14 fours and two sixes.
Kohli scored his 46th ODI hundred off 85 balls. It was his second century of the series and 10th ODI ton against the Lankans.
Kohli remained unbeaten on 166 off 110 balls. His knock was studded with 13 fours and eight sixes.
Kohli added 108 for the third wicket along with Shreyas Iyer (38).
Kohli was declared both man-of-the match and man-of-the-series.
