India go into must-win fifth Test against England without Bumrah

India must win the fifth and final Test at The Oval starting July 31 to avoid a series defeat in England. But they will have to do it without pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who is likely to miss out as part of his workload management.
According to reports, Akash Deep is likely to replace the No 1-ranked Test bowler. India trail the series 1-2, and Shubman Gill will need a win in the final match to avoid losing his maiden series as India's Test captain.
"The BCCI medical team has told Bumrah that the decision is in line with safeguarding his back and keeping the long-term in mind," reported ESPNCricinfo.
Bumrah had said ahead of the series that he is unlikely to play more than three matches as part of balancing his workload in the wake of a lengthy back injury that has troubled him since the series against Australia.
The 31-year-old has played three Tests in the ongoing series, missing out on the second game, which India won. Bumrah was off-colour in the fourth Test at Manchester, picking 2/112. Unbeaten centuries from Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar helped India draw the fourth Test to stay alive in the series.
