Just like in the recent Asia Cup, there were no handshakes between the captains of India and Pakistan during the toss ahead of the Women's World Cup clash in Colombo on Sunday.

Harmanpreet Kaur tossed the coin, and her Pakistani counterpart, Fatima Sana, called it right before moving across to talk to the commentator, Mel Jones. Throughout the activity, both captains maintained distance, and it seemed like they ignored each other altogether.

It was a continuation of a trend set by Suryakumar Yadav, who did not shake hands with Salman Ali Agha on all three occasions India and Pakistan clashed in the recently concluded Asia Cup T20 event in the UAE.

The hostility between the neighbours was reignited following the Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir earlier this year, in which Pakistan-backed terrorists gunned down 26 civilians.

India launched a military action across the border to eliminate terror infrastructure, and the two countries were briefly engaged in a war-like situation.

Pakistan chose to field in their attempt to end a winless run against India in ODIs that has stretched to 11 matches.
