Karun Nair, who impressed with the bat for Vidarbha in the previous Ranji Trophy season, will feature for Karnataka in the upcoming campaign. The Bengaluru-Malayali has been named in Karnataka’s squad for their opening Ranji Trophy match against Saurashtra, beginning in Rajkot on October 15.

Karun rejoined his home state ahead of the season after playing a key role in Vidarbha’s triumphant Ranji campaign last year. He scored 779 runs in the season, including 135 in the final for Vidarbha against Kerala, which earned him a spot in the Indian Test squad that faced England last June.

However, the 33-year-old did not have a stellar outing in England and was replaced by fellow Karnataka batter Devdutt Padikkal for the ongoing Test series against the West Indies.

Karun was earlier named in the probables for Karnataka. Mayank Agarwal will continue to lead the side, which has named some new faces such as Kruthika Krishna, Shikhar Shetty and Mohsin Khan.
