Kerala are in danger of surrendering precious points from conceding the first innings lead for the second match in a row in the Ranji Trophy.

Kerala were 247/6 at stumps on the third day, trailing Punjab by 189 runs in Chandigarh on Monday.

Punjab would take three points, while Kerala would have to settle for just one if the match ended in a draw on Tuesday.

Kerala had surrendered the lead in their season opener earlier this month against Maharashtra in Thiruvananthapuram.

The visitors began at 15/1 and lost Vathsal Govind, who replaced Sanju Samson in the squad, in the first session. A 69-run partnership between Ankit Sharma (62) and Rohan Kunnummal (43) gave Kerala a glimmer of hope. Sachin Baby (36) and captain Mohammed Azharuddeen (13) couldn't construct a partnership to save the day.

At stumps, Baba Aparajith (39) and Ahammed Imran (19) were unbeaten. Punjab had posted a solid 436. Kerala had an incredible Ranji campaign last season, finishing runners-up for the first time.
