India are likely to be without captain Shubman Gill for the crucial second Test against South Africa in Guwahati, starting November 22.
According to a Cricket Association of Bengal source quoted by PTI, Gill will not travel with the team on Wednesday. Team India have an optional training session on Tuesday.
"He has acute neck pain, and we're not allowed to further go to details about the injury. He has to keep wearing the neck collar," the source said.
According to reports, Gill has been advised to rest for three to four days and avoid travel. Head Coach Gautam Gambhir had said after the first Test that Gill was being assessed.
Gill could not bat in the second innings, as a result India were dismissed for 93, losing by 30 runs. Gill had retired hurt after facing three deliveries in India's first innings and was taken to a hospital.
In October 2024, Gill had missed the Test against New Zealand due to a neck spasm. Either Sai Sudharsan or Devdutt Padikkal could replace Gill in the second Test.
