Madhya Pradesh recovered from a shaky position to end Day 2 of their Ranji Trophy match against Kerala at 155/6 at Indore on Monday. The hosts trail by 126 runs as Kerala had posted 281 in their first innings.
The hosts were left reeling at 73/5 before a pair of partnerships came to their rescue. Rishabh Chouhan (21) supported Jain to get the MP innings past 100. Later, Jain (41) stitched an unbeaten 54-run stand with Aryan Pandey (33) to take the hosts to stumps, feeling confident.
Earlier, Kerala resumed at 246/7 with Baba Aparajith unbeaten on 81. But the vice-captain was unlucky to miss out on his century, dismissed for 98 by Kuldeep Sen.
MP should be hoping Jain and Pandey can construct a big score when play resumes on the penultimate day, while Mohammed Azharuddeen would want his pacers to inflict some early damage and secure the lead, only the second time this season.
Kerala, without their talisman Sanju Samson, are yet to win a match this season, but have travelled to Indore after securing a morale-boosting draw (with a lead) against Saurashtra.
Brief scores: Kerala 281 in 114.4 overs (Baba Aparajith 98, Abijith Praveen 60, Abhishek J Nair 47, Arshad Khan 4/54, Saransh Jain 3/40) vs Madhya Pradesh 155/6 in 61 overs (Saransh Jain 41 not out, Aryan Pandey 33 not out, Nidheesh MD 2/39, Eden Apple Tom 2/40). Stumps on Day 2
